Winter Fuel Payment Decrease

The Budget for 2011 was released yesterday and it has shown many areas where the Government plans to make cuts. One of theses cuts is the winter fuel payments for the elderly.

The previous allowance for the winter fuel payment was £250 for over 60’s and £400 for over 80’s. This has now been reduced to just £200 for over 60’s and £300 for over 80’s.

This is likely to have a serious impact on the personal finance of the elderly. The decrease in the winter fuel payments coupled with savings being depleated due to inflation could see more pensioners seeking debt advice.
